‘The Hungani Ndlovu effect’ – Skeem Saam hits the 5m views mark

SABC educational drama series Skeem Saam is now the second most-watched soapie after Uzalo, after hitting the 5 million views mark.

SABC 1 drama series Skeem Saam hit the 5 million views mark in July, making it the second most-watched drama series on the national broadcaster channel SABC 1.

In recent seasons, the drama series has wowed many with its plot and storyline.

SKEEM SAAM HITS THE 5M VIEWS MARK

The Broadcasting Research Council of South Africa revealed that the educational drama series was the second most-watched soapie in South Africa for July and needed at least 380 000 views to dethrone the most-watched drama series.

Over the years, the drama series has gained popularity and has fast become one of the most-watched drama series in South Africa thanks to its star-studded cast.

Undoubtedly, it has kept the second-most-watched soapie spot after Uzalo over the past few months. Against its success, it was renewed for the 12th season, which saw Hungani Ndlovu joining the show to portray the character of Tbose Maputla.

Hungani Ndlovu has been topping trends after the news dropped that the drama series managed to hit the 5 million viewers mark in the wake of his debut.

Entertainment blogger Jabulani took to Twitter to celebrate the dominance of the drama series.

@Jabu_Macdonald tweeted: “SkeemSaam reached over 5 million viewers in the month of July and still remains the second most-watched show on SABC 1.”

However, his tweet saw fans and viewers of the drama series flooding his comments section with congratulatory messages.

@ReelieN tweeted: “Hungani was doing the most last month, congrats to them.”

@MhlangaLindo posted: “I blame @HunganiNdlovu, the guy trended every day. He brought drama, and South Africans were there for it.”
