SELLO MAAKE KANCUBE: ACTING GOAT

KaNcube, known for his stellar performances in iconic productions like Generations, is determined to take his grievances all the way to the labour court reports Sunday World. He’s not backing down without a fight! The theatre’s legal team, on the other hand, seems just as resolved to keep their secrets locked away, a move that has only fueled the flames of this fiery feud.

In a virtual showdown during the first pre-trial conference, KaNcube’s legal eagle, Makayla Pillay, demanded access to the elusive ‘scoreboard.’ This magical piece of paper apparently holds the key to the puzzle. It reveals why Homann supposedly outscored KaNcube by a whopping 41 points in the race for the coveted artistic director position.

SELLO MAAKE KANCUBE VS THE MARKET THEATRE

Yet, much to KaNcube’s dismay, the theatre’s legal guardians refused to unveil this mysterious document, claiming it was confidential. With the tension escalating faster than a Shakespearean tragedy, KaNcube expressed his frustration.

“Look, before that they said I was rejected because the strategy I presented was not aligned with where they wanted to go. But nobody told me where they wanted to go. Had they told me where they wanted to go, I would have cobbled a strategy that was aligned with their vision.”

UNFAIR PROCEEDINGS?

The theatre also raised eyebrows by suggesting that Homann’s youth was an advantage, yet they curiously refused to disclose his age. KaNcube, however, was not convinced, hinting that Homann’s prior involvement in The Market Theatre’s productions might have given him an unfair edge, possibly suggesting that the dice were loaded in Homann’s favour from the start.

But it’s not just about the job; KaNcube’s fight goes beyond mere career ambition. He believes in the importance of mentoring and nurturing the talents of young black artists. In his own words,

“I did not have a specific salary expectation because I believed the importance of teaching and nurturing the talents of black children went beyond monetary value.”

ACTING LEGACY

This battle isn’t just about a paycheck; it’s about a legacy. Adding to the drama, KaNcube expressed deep disappointment in the interview process, asserting that the panellists lacked the industry know-how necessary for such a critical role.

“I was interviewed by people who are not even qualified to interview for the space they think they understand and occupy! They must come for me because I’m now ready to fight for what is right!”
