Sussex who? Harry, Meghan changes Archie and Lilibet’s surname

It’s official. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have adopted the Sussex title as surname for their children, MailOnline reports.

NEW SURNAME FOR HARRY’S CHILDREN, ARCHIE AND LILIBET

Introducing Archie (4) and Lilibet (2) Sussex. Yes, according to MailOnline, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle gave their children their title, perhaps to show unity as they relaunched their brand.

As per The Sun, although the children have been using the Sussex title since their grandfather, King Charles III’s coronation in May last year, the new surname now officially replaces their former Mountbatten-Windsor surname, first coined by the late Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.

Not everyone is, however, happy with the news, with many royal critics and fans calling the Duke and Duchess out for “breaching their promise to the late Queen” when they stepped down from their royal duties, Tatler reports.

Queen Elizabeth banned the couple from using the “SussexRoyal” brand after they left the royal family in 2020, MailOnline reports.

According to The Sun, Harry and Meghan are allowed to use their Duke and Duchess titles but cannot use HRH in any new financial endeavors.

NOT THE ONLY NAME CHANGE

The Sussex children aren’t the only ones to get a name change. Meghan Markle’s name also underwent a small change, and according to the Mirror, it’s a big nod to the Royal Family.

On Prince Harry and Meghan’s brand new website, sussexroyal.com, she is simply referred to as Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex. Her surname has completely been dropped.
