The death of a member of the Royal Family takes an enormous amount of planning and preparation, The Sun reports.

In fact, according to the publication, the death of a royal involves dozens of people across all sorts of agencies, and each member’s plan has a codename.

In the case of King Charles III, his death is called Operation Menai Bridge.

The Late Queen Elizabeth had the codename Operation London Bridge, People reports. She reigned for 70 years before passing away in 2022.

According to reports, the operation procedures are set in place to “help matters run smoothly in the hours and days after the death of a monarch.”

After a reigning monarch dies, the first step is to alert the general public. As per The Sun, on the day Queen Elizabeth died, Buckingham Palace put out a statement announcing the tragic news: “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.”

The same will happen in the case of King Charles III’s death.

The Palace will do the same when the King dies. As per The Independent, once this happens, the King’s private secretary would inform the Prime Minister, the King’s Privy Council Office, who will communicate with the cabinet secretary, several senior ministers, and government officials. The departmental permanent secretaries will inform the government ministers, while the cabinet secretary will email senior civil servants. The latter will result in flags across Whitehall being lowered to half-mast.

The day the monarch dies is labeled D-Day, with each following day being known as D+1 and D+2 and so forth, The Guardian reports.

Once Operation Menai Bridge is set in motion, Prince William will become King and Princess Kate Queen.

In the event of the passing of the current reigning monarch, the new King will address the British nation the very next day.

What will happen to Queen Camilla should King Charles pass away?

According to The Sun, she will become Queen Dowager.
