On Saturday, 11 November, during the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall, King Charles III and his wife, Queen Camilla, unveiled two new statues in memory of his parents Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.

KING CHARLES GETS EMOTIONAL

During the unveiling King Charles appeared to be very emotional and teary. While at the ceremony King Charles was tasked to unvei his mother’s statue, while Camilla, unveiled Prince Philp’s statue.

According to Page Six, the statue unveiling was part of a greater ceremony for Remembrance Day, which is said to recognize, remember and honour those who have sacrificed their lives to serve and protect the Commonwealth.

Several members of the royal family were present, including Prince William and Kate Middleton, Prince Edward and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, Princess Anne and Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and Duke of Kent.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were not present, however they were celebrating Veteran’s Day in California by meeting veterans at Camp Pendleton in San Diego.

‘A MOMENT OF GREAT SADNESS’

Prince Phillip was 99 years old at the time of his death in April 2021. Queen Elizabeth on the other hand, died two years after the passing of her husband, Prince Phillip in September 2022 at 96 years old. Queen Elizabeth II was the longest-reigning monarch in British history.

Following his mother’s death, King Charles shared that it was “moment of the greatest sadness”.

He continued: ‘We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished Sovereign and a much-loved Mother. I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world”.

King Charles’ coronation ceremony took place in May of this year.
