A businessman, TV host and more: Get to know Lupita Nyong’o’s boyfriend Selema Masekela — the son of a late South African music legend.

Black Panther actress and Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o, 39, shocked fans in December when she introduced her boyfriend, Selema “Sal” Masekela.
This was mainly because the Kenyan-Mexican star had always kept her personal life out of the public eye. Moreover, she had never denied or confirmed dating rumours in the past.
Revealing their relationship in an Instagram reel, Lupita did not say much, “We just click! #thisismylove #nuffsaid,” as a caption on her video.
Masekela also reposted the video, with the caption: “Hearts are synched. My whole and actual love @lupitanyongo.”
The couple reportedly celebrated the holidays by jointly purchasing a multimillion-dollar Los Angeles home worth more than $4 million (about R69 million).

1. HE IS HUGH MASEKELA’S SON
Masekela is the son of legendary South African jazz musician Hugh Masekela. He was born in Los Angeles on 28 August 1971, which means he is 51.
2. HE IS A TV HOST
Masekela the current host of ESPN’s X Games. He has also hosted shows such as Ballbreakers on the Game Show Network and The Daily 10 on E! — People reports. Additionally, he has served as a correspondent for the summer Olympics on NBC.

3. HE IS ALSO A MUSICIAN
Like his father, Masekela is in a band, Alekesam, whose songs have been featured on HBO’s Entourage and Showtime’s House of Lies.
4. SELEMA MASEKELA OWNS A SURFING BRAND
The TV host is the co-founder of the surf apparel company Mami Wata.
5. THE COUPLE CROSSED PATHS IN 2016
It is not clear when Lupita and Selema Masekela started dating, but the TV host was seated behind Nyong’o during a flight from Los Angeles in 2016 and tweeted about it.
In his tweet he said he couple not find the right opener to strike a conversation with her.
“Hypothetically speaking of course…Let’s say you’re seated behind Lupita Nyong’o on an airplane, what would be your opening line?” he tweeted.
