Businessman and motivational speaker Vusi Thembekwayo has been acquitted of the assault charges levelled against him by his estranged wife, Palesa Mahlolo Thembekwayo, in 2021.

VUSI THEMBEKWAYO NOT GUILTY OF ASSAULTING WIFE

According to Sunday World, Magistrate Louis found that the state could not prove beyond reasonable doubt that the author of The Magna Carta of Exponentiality assaulted Palesa.

The publication further reports that the court found Palesa to be an unreliable witness. In addition, her statement reportedly had discrepancies and she could not remember certain details.

“She was not forthcoming. She did not take the court into her confidence and she alleged that she did not know if the accused dragged her down the stairs.

“She was disputing certain points in the J88. The first injuries were sustained to the right of her body. The injuries were on the left,” said Louis.

In contrast, the court said that Thembekwayo cooperated.

GBV ALLEGATIONS AND DRUG ABUSE CLAIMS

Thembekwayo and Palesa got married in April 2020. Their separation came after she accused the businessman of gender-based violence (GBV) at their marital home in Fourways.

In a police statement that year, Palesa stated that the businessman asked for both of them to leave the house, but she told him that she was not going anywhere.

“He has taken the black plastic bags and he put my clothes in them inside the boot of the car. He then took off the blankets from me while I was sleeping in the bed, and he pulled me off the bed, ” read the statement.

She added that he pulled her out of the bed, held her by her legs and dragged her from the bedroom down the stairs.

“He slapped me several times on my face with his open hand, and then put me inside the car. He has again slapped me with his open hand. I have sustained injuries on my face and on my right hand.”

She further alleged that the right-hand side of her face was swollen. Palesa added that she had a cut on her upper lip, her body was aching and noticed a reddish and purplish mark on her right bicep.

Thembekwayo, who was granted R1 000 bail, denied assaulting Palesa and instead accused her of being a substance abuser.
