‘Africa to the world’: Tyla on making history at Grammys [photos]

Award-winning singer Tyla Seethal decided to take some time to thank several people behind the success of her Water song – this comes after making history as the youngest South African Grammy award winner on Sunday, 4 February in the United States.

‘HONOURED’: TYLA EXPRESSES HER GRATITUDE

Tyla (22) bagged herself a Grammy in the category for Best African Music Performance. She walked away with the award at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards premiere ceremony at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. 

On her Instagram feed, she thanked “all the winners and nominees”, and some of the people involved in the making of her award-winning Water song.

“I am so honored to be the first winner of a Grammy under this newly introduced category… We made history!” she wrote.

“I wanna say some more thank you’s to all my Tygers, my choreographer @litchi_hov, my creative director @thegmni, the Fantastic 4 @sammy_soso @bhxbelievve @mochabands @aripensmith
And my label @epicrecords,” she added.

Tyla’s hypnotic and seductive summer anthem, Water, also made it to the top five in dozens of countries and ended 2023 as the most-streamed Afrobeats song on Spotify, BBC reported.

“Congratulations to all the winners and nominees Africa to the world,” Tyla wrote.

Besides Tyla, a number of beloved musicians also earned their first trophies this year, Forbes reported. While some of the stars who snagged their first Grammys have been around for many years, others only became proper stars recently, the publication added.

Miley Cyrus, Zack Bryan, Victoria Monét, Lil Durk and Brandy Clark were recently named on the list of first-time Grammy winners.
