Swedish top-flight club inquire about R32m star Khanyisa Mayo – reports

Swedish top-flight club Mjallby AIF has reportedly inquired about the availability of Cape Town City’s talisman Khanyisa Mayo.

Swedish top-flight club Mjallby AIF has reportedly made inquiries regarding the availability of Cape Town City striker Khanyisa Mayo.

Reports have it that the club hopes to beef up its squad during the current transfer window which is open until 27 March.

SWEDISH CLUB INQUIRES ABOUT R32 MILLION STAR KHANYISA MAYO

No doubt the reports have since thrust Mayo into the top trends. Mayo has been linked to several teams in several transfer windows, but nothing has materialised yet. His contract with Cape Town City runs out in 2028.

However, against the news, the club is yet to confirm if there were any inquiries on the star as alleged by the rumour mill. Khanyisa Mayo is among the most-priced DStv Premier League players, with a whopping price tag of R38 million.

KAIZER CHIEFS RUMOURS

Last year, Khanyiso Mayo opened up about Kaizer Chiefs’ interests. The Cape Town City star revealed that Kaizer Chiefs once acquired his services, but City was unwilling to let him go.

Speaking on Radio 2000, he said, “There was interest [from Chiefs] in January, but Cape Town City was not willing to sell. But I’ve now committed to City until 2028. I’m happy here, and we want to challenge the big clubs and give it a go.”

CAREER

Little is known about his youth career. Khanyisa Mayo, who happens to be the son of former South African footballer Patrick Mayo, started his senior career with Ubuntu Cape Town in 2017.

Over the years, he has starred for several clubs, including Royal Eagles and Richards Bay. In 2021, he joined Cape Town City and has been the club’s poster boy since his arrival.

He has been clinical on goal and has since scored over 50 goals for the club. Last season, he was joint top goal scorer with Shalulile on 12 goals. This season, he has already netted seven goals.
