Steve Hofmeyr has seemingly defended MP Renaldo Gouws – and chastised the DA for suspending him – after the latter’s K-word video controversy.

Last week, the political party claimed that the 41-year-old would face disciplinary charges after verifying the authenticity of the latest racist video from his past.

The clip – filmed in 2010 – featured the outspoken social media commentator saying the racial slur and inciting violence against black people.

STEVE HOFMEYR DEFENDS RENALO GOUWS

In his Monday morning weekly Facebook chat, Steve Hofmeyr seemingly defended Renaldo Gouws from critics who labelled him “racist”.

Steve said: “If you watched the whole video, you would know he used it as an example to put real racists like Julius Malema in their place, to ask them, ‘How does this feel?’”.

He added: “The video is not embarrassing; his suspension is embarrassing. It shows the DA is the most woke party in South Africa”.

On his X account, Steve also claimed that Gouws’s critics did not see the video in its “context.”

WHAT DID RENALDO GOUWS SAY?

In the clip, which has been trending on social media, Renaldo Gouws expresses his anger at then ANC Youth League president Julius Malema singing the struggle song Kill The Boer. He also vents about his frustration about farm murders.

He said: “Kill the f**king k*****s. Kill all the f**king n*****s, that’s all I’ve got to say”.

He added: “In 90 days, we are going to have the [Fifa] World Cup in South Africa. Here you have an ignorant, little black idiot singing about ‘Kill the Boer, kill the farmer.”

“If I had to go in the street and get 50 white people and start saying ‘Kill the k***ers, kill the n***ers, what do you think will happen?”.

According to DA Director of Communications Richard Newton, Renaldo Gouws will be suspended from all party activities while the FLC begins proceedings. This will take place “right away.”

When The South African repeatedly asked whether Gouws would keep drawing a salary from Parliament, Newton said, “The FLC case must first be completed before punitive measures are imposed.”

DA ‘VETTING PROCESS’ UNDER SCRUTINY

Meanwhile, the DA has come under fire for failing to do a “background check” on Renaldo Gouws.

Newton told eNCA: “The vetting process is very thorough. This was 15 years ago, and it may have slipped through the net.

“We are investigating this, and we’re checking whether there are any other videos. This is an incredibly serious matter, and we’re not taking it lightly. Every avenue will be investigated.”
