Following the Springboks’ Rugby World Cup victory in France, the players have been parading the trophy across the country and fans have joined them in their numbers. However, for South Africa’s matriculants, the week following the World Cup win has been tough to juggle.

While they want to meet their heroes, they’ve also had to keep focused on the Matric Exam period which kicked off on Monday 30 October. One student epitomised this when they made their way to the Durban leg of the Trophy Tour but had to bring their books with them!

BOOKS OR SPRINGBOKS? WHY NOT BOTH?

For one particular student in Durban, the chance to meet her heroes was not one she was willing to miss. Having said that, the matric exams are also a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to secure one’s academic future and it’s understandable she didn’t want to put her studies in jeopardy. Instead of choosing between the two, she decided to accommodate both – by bringing her books to the Springboks Trophy parade!

The teenager was profiled on ENCA where she explained that she had brought her study materials with her and would be browsing her notes during gaps while waiting for the players. It was soon revealed that she would be writing her physics exam in the new week. Speaking to the news team she explained “I am so so excited to see them, I cannot wait!” When asked who she was most excited to see she replied emphatically “Eben!”

‘IT’S THE COMMITMENT FOR ME!’

The young student’s efforts to stay on top of her grades despite wanting to see the Springboks were greatly admired on social media.
