Springboks fans rage as someone tries to steal World Cup trophy!
Springboks fans had to intervene after a stranger tried to steal the Rugby World Cup Trophy during the Boks’ victory parade.

A moment of madness threatened to ruin the Cape Town leg of the Springboks Trophy Tour when a fan tried to steal the trophy. The onlooking crowd quickly dealt with them though!

The Webb Ellis trophy is back in South Africa following the Springboks’ heroics in France on the 28th of October 2023. The Boks edged out their arch-rivals, New Zealand’s All Blacks, in a close encounter which saw them crowned the World Champions of rugby for the fourth time. The celebrations have been in full swing across the country but one particular “fan” took things too far when they tried to literally take matters into their own hands – but in all the wrong ways.

SPRINGBOKS ON ALERT AS SOMEONE TRIES TO STEAL TROPHY
The Springboks’ Trophy Tour touched down in Cape Town on Friday where the players were greeted by massive crowds from across the city. From the City Bowl to the outskirts, the supporters were in full voice for the whole day.
When things are that crowded, it can be easy for a few things to go unsighted and unfortunately in South Africa, that leads to opportunists trying their luck. Usually, criminals would target small items such as phones and wallets when things are so crowded. One person decided to aim a little higher.
Video footage of a stranger in the crowd trying to steal the Webb Ellis has gone viral and once fans noticed what he was up to, they instantly turned on the man and called him to order.
‘UNCULTURED!’ – FANS SLAM TROPHY THIEF
Needless to say, people weren’t happy to see this kind of behaviour on what was meant to be a happy occasion. Fans quickly took to social media to condemn the would-be thief by writing scathing comments such as, “No man these Cape Town pharas are uncultured”. Another simply couldn’t believe the audacity, writing, “When you’re a thief you’re a thief. You can’t even help yourself! THE RUGBY WORLD CUP?? Are you for real?”

Thankfully Bill, the nickname given to the trophy, is still in safe hands as the Springboks make their way to Durban for the next leg of their Trophy Tour. After seeing how this particular man was dealt with, let’s hope nobody will try anything similar in the next few stops!
