Springbok Ox Nché receives high honour in his hometown [watch]

South African rugby player Retshegofaditswe “Ox” Nche continues to make himself and his family proud. Ox is one of the Springbok stars who brought the Webb Ellis Cup home after winning the Rugby World Cup last month. In honour of this, he was granted a heroic honour in his hometown, Thaba Nchu, in the Free State this week.

Ox received the title “Tlotlo ya Morafe wa Barolong boo-Seleka (Honour of the Nation)” from Kgosi Gaboilelwe Moroka.

Ox Nché honoured in his hometown

It has been quite the time for the South African national team who have been celebrated across the country for bringing home the Rugby World Cup again.

When they first landed in SA following their stay in France where the RWC took place this year, they paraded the country with the trophy and were welcomed home by thousands of rugby fans.

When the trophy parade ended, many of the players received even warmer welcomes in their hometowns where those who grew up with them got the chance to show just how proud they are.

Springbok loosehead Ox Nché not only received a warm welcome but an honorary title too.

The “bomb-squad” member was bestowed the title Tlotlo ya Morafe wa Barolong boo-Seleka which is “only granted to esteemed individuals who stand out for their exceptional achievements in their field and have served the nation and the interests of our country to the best of their abilities.”

A proud moment

Speaking to SABC News, Ox revealed that he was “honoured” to be such a huge inspiration to so many people.

“I feel honoured and this should be an inspiration to everyone that it is possible.”

Meanwhile fans shared how he serves as a beacon of hope in their community that anything is possible.
