A number of celebrities – including Somizi – have put CemAir on blast over their official statement regarding a viral video of Shamiso Mosaka being forced to disembark her plane.

Over the weekend, the TV personality shared her experience of being racially profiled on board a flight from Durban to Johannesburg.

The airline has since responded, calling the star “abusive and unruly.” They’ve also threatened to prosecute her for committing a “serious offence.”

SHAMISO VS CEMAIR: WHAT HAPPENED?

In a video posted on her Instagram Live on Sunday, 17 March, Shamiso documented how a CemAir air stewardess had requested she get off the flight.

According to the 24-year-old, who was travelling from Durban to Johannesburg, this was because she uttered the words: “What the f**k” to a friend on a telephone call.

Shamiso claims the flight attendant advised her not to swear and, after a verbal disagreement, decided to have her removed.

“I’m not getting off the flights because I paid for it,” the agitated young woman said.

Addressing the attendant – whom she labelled “racist,” Shamiso said: “I didn’t do anything to you.” She later told police: “I was not once vulgar, or inappropriate, or disruptive or disrespectful to anyone on the plane.”

On social media, many users seemed to side with Shamiso. However, CemAir painted a different picture in their official response.

Without naming her, the airline said in a statement: “A late boarded passenger became unruly and abusive, refusing to follow the lawful instructions of the cabin crew member.

“When the cabin crew member determined that she was unable to reason with the passenger, she informed the Captain. The Captain shut down the already running engines and attempted to persuade the passenger to comply with the safety regulations on board the aircraft. When the Captain could not reason with the passenger either, the matter was handed over to the South African Police Service, and the passenger was removed from the aircraft.

CemAir claims that Shamiso “attempted to gain access to the aircraft flight deck.” It continued: “This is a serious offence.”

The airline is considering “potential prosecution of the matter”

Shamiso has yet to reply to the statement.

SOMIZI, OTHERS CLAP BACK

Meanwhile, Somizi has clapped back at CemAir’s statement.

In an Instagram Story, the media personality defended Shamiso. He posted: “Piece of s**t airline. Even with evidence, you are still defending racism”.

Fellow TV personality Bridget Masinga tweeted: “What the hell did I just watch? CemAir,  you should be ashamed of the discrimination and conduct of your crew assisted by SAPS inflicted on Shamiso. That young lady is owed a sincere public apology for the very public humiliation.”

Ntsiki Mazwai also had her say. She tweeted: “How did Shamiso keep her cool? What a violent experience…..the air hostess should catch charges”.
