RG Snyman’s tattoo sparks outrage

Over the last couple weeks, South Africans have been riding the wave of the national rugby team’s success during the Rugby World Cup which took place in France.

Economic Freedom Fighter leader Julius Malema sparked instant division after sharing his views on the Springboks’ background.

According to the sharp-tongued leader, the Springboks name, colours and emblem are a symbol of the white supremacy ideology.

This led to his followers unearthing more instances of alleged racism within the Springboks.

One such post was made about RG Snyman’s tattoo which many believed to be a tattoo of infamous afrikaner nationalist Eugène Terr’Blanche.

Hidden agendas to spark division?

These claims have been heavily criticised by Springbok fans who have unearthed a post by Snyman’s tattoo artist, Tony Weintraud.

The tattoo, which was designed and done by Tony in 2019, was inspired by the Vikings and is an ode to Snyman who is known as the South African viking.

“A work in progress on the springbok lock and all round great guy @rgsnyman Sitting like a rock for this Viking inspired piece. Still lots to do, adding more work around and finishing the top with some colour. Thanks for watching, hope you like?” Tony captioned his work on Snyman’s arm.
