The Reeva Steenkamp Foundation on Saturday, 10 February posted a short poem on grief – this comes five days after Oscar Pistorius’s one-month anniversary on parole.

‘I AM IN AGONY’: REEVA STEENKAMP FOUNDATION ON GRIEF

The Reeva Steenkamp Foundation posted a poem on grief by Sharyn Marsh titled Leave Her Wild. The poem reads: “I sat with my grief and it told me its name, it said ‘I am love, just turned into pain’.

“[It said] ‘Please don’t fear me’. It went on to say ‘We need to be friends because I am here to stay’. I said ‘If you are love then why betray me? Can’t you see that I am in agony?’.

“Grief put its arm around me and whispered really low ‘But child, can’t you see that their love did not go’. Grief then said ‘They are still with you although their body you can’t see, their love never left you, please believe me’,” the poem read.

Reeva Steenkamp was shot and killed on Valentine’s Day in 2013 by her boyfriend at the time, former Olympic runner  Oscar Pistorius. Pistorius shot her four times through a closed bathroom door in their home with his licensed 9mm pistol, claiming that he thought a burglar was on the other side.

WHERE IS OSCAR PISTORIUS NOW?

The 37-year-old former Olympic runner is currently living under strict conditions at a family home in Pretoria, ABC News reported. He is allegedly staying at his uncle Arnold’s mansion in the upscale suburb of Waterkloof.

This comes after he was released from Atteridgeville Correctional Centre on parole on 5 January. He became eligible for parole in March 2023 after serving half of his sentence, Reuters reported. While on parole, Pistorius will be monitored by correctional officials until his sentence expires in December 2029.
