Beloved Springbok head coach Johan “Rassie” Erasmus is to be awarded an honorary doctorate by the North-West University (NWU), news.nwu revealed.

HALALA! RASSIE ERASMUS TO RECEIVE HONORARY DOCTORATE

The decision to award Rassie Erasmus an honorary doctorate was reportedly approved by the NWU Council last year, on 16 November.

The honorary award will be reportedly bestowed upon him in recognition of his innovative and exceptional management of the Springboks during their victorious 2019 and 2023 Rugby World Cup campaigns.

“Rassie embodies the principles of resilience, determination and teamwork that we at the North-West University hold dear in our educational mission. His contributions to South Africa, both as a rugby strategist and as a nation builder, serve as a shining example of what can be achieved when passion, dedication and visionary leadership come together. This esteemed recognition is not only well deserved but also a testament to the remarkable contributions and exceptional impact Rassie has made in the field of sport and innovative sports management,” Council Chairperson, Bert Sorgdrager was quoted as saying.

COACH RECEIVES NEW CONTRACT

Rassie Erasmus is back as head coach of the Springboks after signing a new contract following the departure of Jacques Nienaber to Leinster, Africa News reported. Erasmus signed on for the next four years and is expected to lead the Springboks to the Rugby World Cup in Australia in 2027.

Speaking about his role as head coach of the South African rugby team, Erasmus said: “In my role as director of rugby in the last four years I continued to oversee the team structures and strategy in conjunction with Jacques and the other coaches, so it should be an easy transition back into the head coach role”.

New changes have been hinted at by Erasmus with his new position including removing Siya Kolisi as the captain of the Springboks, Planet Rugby reported.
