South African media personality and former University of Cape Town Vice Chancellor Professor Phakeng has once again availed herself to an online battle. This after a photo of her open belly button was criticised by X users who have deemed it “inappropriate for a woman her age”.

While some have agreed that she should be “dressing her age”, others have blasted social media users who criticise women and how they choose to present themselves.

Former vice chancellor of the University of Cape Town Mamokgethi Phakeng is once again trending.

This comes after she shared a picture of herself with her belly button sticking out.

She is is well known for ruffling feathers and this time it is no different.

In the comment section of her post, she was called out for dressing and behaving “inappropriately” for her age.

” this inappropriate for a wife and mother!!! You are in your mid 40s!! Put the tummy and ripped jeans away! Women that dress like teenagers are sad!” one strongly opinionated social media user commented under photo.

These views were echoed by another app user who said:

“Belly button out is inappropriate for a middle-aged woman”

As usual, Prof Phakeng did not back down from these comments and made it known that she couldn’t care less what other people think of the way she clothes herself.

“Who decides what’s appropriate and what’s not?” she wrote in response.

Many agreed with her while telling trolls to continue scrolling when it comes to Phakeng who has always been liberal and outspoken.
