No doubt, South Africa boasts several super and hypercars that often top trends when spotted taking a spin. Social media was abuzz after photos of a McLaren 720S made rounds on social media.

Photos of the car have gained thousands of comments and reactions since they dropped on the internet.

The photos were first shared on Instagram by famous car spotter pe_petrolheads, who has spotted some of the world’s rarest cars, including the trending R42.8 million Koenigsegg.

Surprisingly, only four units of the Koenigsegg CCXR are on the market, one of which is in South Africa. The car has a Gauteng registration plate. However, pe_petrolheads has also spotted another beauty, and Mzansi has been trying to connect the dots about its owner.

The trending McLaren 720S from Gqeberha was being trucked off to Cape Town for service. Against the post, many have been trying to connect the dots about the car’s price tag.

Car price tags differ due to the year of production and trims. However, in South Africa, a McLaren 720S has a base price tag of R5 million. However, several dealerships have listed the car on a price-on-request basis, leaving many convinced that they cost a fortune.

Several car enthusiasts have it that the prices might balloon since the car’s production was said to be coming to an end.

The car was a direct replacement of the McLaren 650S. However, since its launch in 2017, several models have hit the market. Some of the models include:

  • 720S 2017-2017
  • 720S Spider – 2018
  • 720S MSO Apex collection
  • 720S Le Mens special edition

No doubt, this is the second McLaren 720s to trend recently. In 2023, social media was abuzz after a video of a McLaren 720S overtaking a BMW motorbike flooded social media.

With a top speed of 340 km/h, the car was spotted overtaking the motorbike driving at 300 km/h on the N3 in the KwaZulu-Natal freeway. After all, a McLaren 720S can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds.

Surprisingly, McLaren is a darling of many A-listers and public figures in South Africa and the world. Reality star Jojo Robbinson also happens to be one of the celebrities who owns a McLaren. She drives around with an R4 million McLaran 570S.

Operation Dudula leader Nhlanhla Lux also owns a McLaren Roadster. However, other celebrities who own the British automobile include Andile Mpisane and Cassper Nyovest.
