African National Congress (ANC) Secretary General Fikile Mbalula set social media abuzz after openly admitting that the ruling party lied about some of the refurbishments at former President Jacob Zuma’s homestead, Nkandla.

Mbalula revealed these daring claims during a briefing in Mpumalanga earlier this week.

REFURBISHMENTS CLAIMS BY ANC

During the briefing, he revealed that the ANC went to Parliament, opened an Ad-Hoc Committee and lied about some of the refurbishments. “We said a swimming pool is a fire pool… it’s hard to defend lies. People have lost their careers because of that thing,” he said.

No doubt his claims have undoubtedly left many trying to connect the dots on the amount used to foot the homestead overhaul.

Former President Jacob Zuma’s R246 million homestead is a beauty located 24 km south of Nkandla town in KwaZulu-Natal. In recent years, the Nkandla homestead has made headlines for the wrong reasons, from its million-rand upgrades to court woes.

Against the trends, let’s dive into former President Jacob Zuma’s lush homestead. According to BBC News, the homestead boasts several amenities, including an amphitheatre.

Reports have it that the entire residence is encircled with a high-end security fence. Rumour has it that during his time in power, several guards used to patrol and guard the homestead and its surroundings.

Little is known about how many houses and rooms it boasts. However, the homestead’s visitor’s lounge has hosted several officials, including Police Minister Bheke Cele and EFF President Julius Malema, during the 2021 riots.

Other amenities include a well-maintained football pitch and swimming pools. Reports have it that it also has a helipad. However, no one has openly confirmed the reports.

Apart from that, it was reported to have a mobile military clinic, which came as part of the upgrades. Well, in the backdrop of its security upgrades, Mail & Guardian has it that the overhaul of the mansion came at the cost of R246 million.
