Nadia Jaftha has broken her silence on the public concerns about her brother Taariq, who has been accused of domestic violence towards his wife Aleesha, previously known as Danica.
The Instagram influencer’s sibling has courted controversy in recent days after Danica’s family claimed she was being held under duress.
Taariq – who has two other wives – also made headlines for his homophobic and religious discrimination rants on TikTok.
TAARIQ CONTROVERSY EXPLAINED
Last month, the family of Taariq Jaftha’s wife Aleesha, previously Danica, accused him of being abusive and holding her against her will. They also claim that he has encouraged her to cut off communication with them.
This, after she allegedly fled their home with the help of a friend. According to the family, Danica’s “escape” was short-lived after Taariq tracked her down the next day.
Taariq and Danica – who have been married for ten years and have five children together – have since repeatedly claimed on social media that there is no cause for concern. They’ve also refuted the allegations made by her family.
However, the public – including Danica’s family and GBV activists Women For Change – believe she is being held under duress. Danica’s family has also expressed their concern for Taariq’s two other wives.
NADIA JAFTHA SPEAKS OUT
In an Instagram post, Nadia Jaftha spoke out about her non-existent relationship with her brother Taariq. The influencer initially distanced herself from her family in a statement, which she later deleted.
In an emotional clip, Nadia claimed that she felt inclined to “share my truth,” which she couldn’t previously do “out of fear.”
Of the allegations against her brother, she said: “I felt extremely triggered by everything.
“My brother and I do not have a relationship. My mother knows how I feel about him. It’s been the theme of my life, trying to prove that I’m not like my brother.
“I’m not talking to my brother; I’m not talking to my mother. For some reason, my mother is blinded to the fact that my brother needs professional help. Or maybe she isn’t, I don’t know”.
Nadia alluded to also being a victim of Taariq’s actions.
Addressing him directly, she said: “I don’t know what receipts or dirt you have on me that you speak of, but I’m not scared of you anymore. I don’t care about what you say…I know my truth and, how you made me feel, and all the trauma you caused me.
“You can’t be a bully your whole life and go through with no consequences. I am done feeling scared and bullied…you take no accountability for anything.”
