Former Bafana Bafana star Lerato Chabangu was not one of the best right-wingers in the DStv Premier League but one of the highest-paid players during his stints with Mamelodi Sundowns.

No doubt, his unmatched flair made him stand above the rest. He was bullish on the pitch, and fans loved it. However, over the years, he has made all sorts of headlines after disappearing from the spotlight in the backdrop of his fame.

LERATO CHABANGU OPENS UP ABOUT HIS PROBLEMS

Earlier this year, The South African connected the dots about his whereabouts. Chabangu’s life has changed since he hung his boots. He has made it known that he is down and out on several interviews.

His recent interview left Mzansi in tears after he dived into his life post-retirement. Chabangu said that he has turned to hustling to make ends meet.

“I only have trophies, but I have lost a lot. People can judge me, but I am still going on. I don’t have income, but I hustle. My mom doesn’t have a home, my brother is nowhere to be found. I am living in a family house, and I don’t know where my kids are. It is sad,” said Lerato Chabangu during his recent interview.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns star revealed that he moved back to his family’s house after things went south. He also reached out to South Africans for help. The once-celebrated talisman has it that he lost everything and is now a laughingstock of his community.

“The family is expecting that you will give back at home, but there is not so much income. They are disappointed because the Chabangu name was high, but now I am a laughingstock,” said Lerato Chabangu.

BEING A LAUGHING STOCK IN HIS COMMUNITY

However, Lerato Chabangu also dived into a life of glitz and glamour during the peak of his career. Lerato Chabangu also opened up about how he blew his millions.

“I blew all my money on useless things because I was always guaranteed a salary the following month. I used to afford expensive things. When the Golf V came out, I bought it without thinking twice. And as you know, women will always be there, but my main problem was booze,” he said.
