Kaizer Chiefs on Wednesday, 6 March announced that they have lifted Itumeleng Khune’s suspension from club activities.

HALALA! ITUMELENG KHUNE’S SUSPENSION LIFTED AHEAD OF SOWETO DERBY

The veteran goalkeeper is back with his team following his suspension which was caused by him allegedly arriving at a training session under the influence of alcohol. Itumeleng Khune was stripped of his captaincy title in December.

“Kaizer Chiefs’ longest serving player, Itumeleng Khune, has rejoined the team following his separation from his teammates to fulfill certain conditions required of him before he could be allowed back at the Village,” read a statement on the Chiefs website.

“Khune was suspended early in December to afford him an opportunity to complete a corrective programme designed for him to meet set expectations for a professional athlete,” the statement added.

“Upon completion of the programme, a report from an independent body of professionals was received and shared with the technical team to demonstrate that he had done all that was required,” the statement continued.

The 36-year-old also recently took to social media and shared some positive words with his fans.

Don’t go backwards to habits and situations that weren’t helping you evolve. You have to keep reminding yourself WHY you even decided to move forward. Stay positive about what’s to come by being CONSISTENT with your change now,” he penned.

Several fans have since been left divided on social media. On the other hand, other Kaizer Chiefs supporters voiced that they were highly anticipating the Soweto derby against Orlando Pirates at FNB Stadium on Saturday
