A clip from an interview with former president Jacob Zuma – the leader of the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party – has gone viral for all the wrong reasons.

In it, the 82-year-old is seen struggling to vocalise his plans for the party’s boycott of the first parliamentary sitting, set to take place on Friday, 14 June, in Cape Town.

The political party received over two million votes in the general elections last month.

ZUMA CRINGE CLIP GOES VIRAL

Speaking to EWN, Jacob Zuma spoke about his bid to “rescue the ANC.”

He also contested the election results, claiming that the MK Party had actually won “two-thirds” of the votes. He said: “The IEC took our votes and gave them to another party. That is not democracy. We’ve got evidence. That is why I charged them.”

In a clip that has gone viral on social media, Zuma is asked if he planned to withhold his party candidates from parliament.

“If there is a law that says there is no, what is it called? Hmm?” he asked interviewer Tshidi Madia.

Zuma argued the quorum standing, claiming that proceedings could not continue if his members were in absentia.

“I’ve been in parliament, my dear. I’ve been there before”, he boldly stated.

Tshidi responded, “I beg to differ, but let’s see. If I’m right, what happens?”. Hilariously, Zuma promised: “I’ll give you a cow.”

According to a statement, the MK Party claimed that it would not be attending the sworn-in ceremony in parliament on Friday.

The party’s 58 elected members, who are expected to occupy seats in the National Assembly, pledged to boycott and not attend the first sitting.

MK Party also argued that the ceremony should not go ahead as it was “unconstitutional.”

MK PARTY’S DUDUZILE: ‘STILL HAVE A LOT TO LEARN’

Meanwhile, Jacob Zuma’s daughter Duduzile, who has taken up a leading role in the MK Party, claims she is still learning the ropes from her famous father.

This, following the public criticism of her comments in various interviews about the party’s plans for governing.

Duduzile’s remarks left many South Africans surprised at her lack of political knowledge, given her senior role in the party.

Following the backlash, the mom-of-two posted a statement hinting at the social media commentary.

She shared: “I am not a perfect being, and I will make mistakes; I will learn from them. This particular campaign trail has matured and groomed me. I still have a lot to learn, and I am excited to learn. It hasn’t been easy, but I never gave up”.

She added defiantly, “When the going gets tough, I get my fighting spirit from you all.”
