‘For school fees’: Khune reacts to fan who asked for January loan

A Kaizer Chiefs fan approached captain Itumeleng Khune for cash to help him get through January. Here’s how he reacted…

Unlike many South Africans, Itumeleng Khune is smiling all through January after bagging an almost R200k cash bonus during a recent Kaizer Chiefs match.

But his payday doesn’t mean he will be splashing the cash anytime soon…

Over the weekend, Itumeleng helped Kaizer Chiefs win the Black Label Cup by defeating Carling Knockout champions Stellenbosch 2-1.

As a result, the captain and goalkeeper netted a cool R185 00 prize money.

The soccer star’s match-winning performance comes after he returned to his club following a misconduct suspension.

But while many fans congratulated the veteran player on his amazing comeback, one brazen follower decided to ask him for a little January loan instead.

“Can I have five klipa [hundred] from your man of the match Carling Cup?” asked the fan.

To which Khune responded declined, stating: “It’s for my kids’ school fees.”

The star is referring to his two daughters, Amogelang Zenande and Lesedi Ziyanda, whom he shares with his wife, Sphelele.

Meanwhile, Itumeleng has hinted that retirement may never be on the cards.

When one follower asked Khune if he was retiring in the comments section under an Instagram post, he responded: “Not anytime soon.”

In recent years, Itu has been plagued by criticism over his age and calls for him to retire.

However, the Kaizer Chiefs player – who joined the club in 2004 – made it clear that he was not ready to end his professional playing career.

In June 2023, Chiefs ended speculation that Khune would retire by offering him a one-year extension on his contract.

The star athlete will continue to play another year in the 2023/2024 season.
