Ronwen’s father, Rodney Williams, who also stayed up on Sunday watching the game against Cape Verde tells the SABC that his heroic son is actually a striker.

“Ronwen was at about the age of seven when he joined Shatterprufe Rovers [amateur club in Gqeberha], but not as a goalkeeper, as a striker. He started as a striker, and that is what many people don’t know,” he says.

“I wish that one day he will get a chance to play in-field, then South Africa will see the different side of Ronwen. I can guarantee you, he’s a striker.”

Leadership reports that South Africa will face Nigeria in the semifinals on Wednesday, 7 February at 19:00.

The Bafana Bafana captain, Ronwen Williams upset Cape Verde when he saved four penalties, out of five in the AFCON (Africa Cup of Nations) game.

Diski Times reports that the talented goalkeeper credited team analyst, Sinesipho Mali after his four penalty saves. He added that he was well-prepared for the game against Cape Verde.

“You know the analyst, he studied the penalties, they sent me so many penalties. Credit to the analyst as well.”

Wiliams added that the quarterfinals game was the best day in his career. He doesn’t think anything can top the Cape Verde game unless they win the AFCON.
