The Pretoria-born MMA fighter secured his new belt – and $1 million prizemoney – after he defeated defending champion Sean Strickland on Sunday morning.
The sports star made history by becoming the first African to win the title.

DRICUS DU PLESSIS FLAUNTS HIS BATTLE SCARS
Following the nailbiting fight, which took place in Canada, Dricus du Plessis chatted to the press about his experience in the octagon.
Proudly wearing a green suit and a gold tie, the champion claimed that his win was a victory for all South Africans.
While his patriotic message touched the hearts of many South Africans, many could not help noticing his bruised and battered face.

In an Instagram post hours after the fight, Dricus shared a pic of him showing off his new UFC world champion belt while enjoying a glass of beer.
