‘Contracts are there’ – DJ Sbu breaks silence on Zahara’s royalties saga [watch]

DJ Sbu is making headlines in the backdrop of his interview with award-winning journalist Xoli Mngambi on Newzroom Afrika.

DJ Sbu is topping trends in the backdrop of his interview with Xoli Mngambi on Newzroom Afrika. The DJ paid tribute to the late multi-award-winning star Zahara during the interview.

Over the years, DJ Sbu and Thembinkosi “TK” Nciza have been credited for thrusting the late star into the limelight through their record label, TS Records. During the interview, the DJ described the late Zahara as ‘caring and loving.’

THRUST INTO THE LIMELIGHT

The DJ Sbu also opened up about how they spotted the award-winning musician and how she was mentored to be one of the greatest star musicians ever from South Africa.

Rumour mill has it that Zahara lived with Thembinkosi “TK” Nciza and his ex-wife for almost a year under their mentorship as she perfected her craft.

Zahara had her shot to fame in 2011 after dropping her debut studio album, Loliwe, under TS Records. She wowed many, and her angelic voice stood out above the rest.

In the backdrop of her successful debut album, she went on to drop her second and third studio albums, Phendula in 2013 and Country Girl in 2015.

However, she later dumped TS Records in the eleventh hour to join Warner Music, which produced her fourth album, Mgodi, in 2017. In 2021, she dropped her fifth album, Nqba Yam.

DJ SBU BREAKS SILENCE ON ZAHARA’S ROYALTIES SAGA

She made it known that the record label swindled her in the backdrop of her dramatic exit. Over the years, Zahara has made it known that the record label owed her over R10 million in royalties from her smash hits.

Questioned about the alleged swindling of royalties, DJ Sbu cleared the air and clarified that Zahara was paid directly to her account as per her contract, and they owed her nothing. Sbu said everything was done according to the books, and contracts were there to prove it.

DJ Sbu said, “The only thing I’ve ever done is contribute and help her succeed.” DJ Sbu also made it known that he was aware of the trolls and backlashes he was getting on social media in the backdrop of Zahara’s death.

“A lot of people are saying I’m to blame. Even though I am not, having worked in the public eye for so long, I understand,” he said.
