WATCH: Zahara’s husband shares fond memories of how they met

Multi award-winning musician Zahara’s memorial service was held at the Rhema Bible Church in Randburg on Thursday.

Mpho Xaba, who is late musician Zahara’s husband, spoke fondly about the memories they created together during the Loliwe hitmaker’s memorial service held at the Rhema Bible Church in Randburg on Thursday, 14 December.

Zahara, who was 36 year old, is said to have succumbed to liver complications at a private hospital in Johannesburg on Monday.

MPHO XABA ON HOW HE NET ZAHARA

In the presence of the musician’s family, friends and colleagues, Xaba shared their love story; telling mourners how they met.

The engineer revealed that the first time they saw each other they had an intimate conversation about life. A week later, the Destiny singer called him and they arranged to meet. However, Xaba says he stood her up three times before their first date, as he had reservations about being romantically involved with a celebrity.

“She never responded for about a week after that. And then, that’s when I realised that ‘wait a minute, maybe something is happening here’. I then reached out,” Xaba shared.

“I was part of a very human and real side of her. I know a lot of things. I know her mind, I know her emotions, I know her naked frailties,” he added.

Xaba also told a funny story that, as part of their intimacy, he used to write Zahara long messages to reassure her of his love. However, he said, the songstress was not too impressed with his long texts as she was lazy to read, so he resorted to sending her long voice notes and videos which she loved.

ENGAGEMENT AND TRADITIONAL WEDDING

The couple got engaged in March this year. According to reports by Zimoja, they were preparing for their wedding day.

On 12 November, three days after Zahara’s birthday, he sent a delegation to the Mkutukana family home for lobolo negotiations. This week, Zimoja reported that the pair were traditionally married.

The award-winning singer will be laid to rest on Saturday, 23 December, in East London in the Eastern Cape. Zahara’s body is also expected to arrive at her family home next week.
