While Nicaragua’s Sheynnis Palacios was crowned Miss Universe 2023, where did South Africa’s Bryoni Govender place?

WHERE DID SOUTH AFRICA PLACE AT MISS UNIVERSE?

The finale of the pageant took place at the José Adolfo Pineda Arena in San Salvador, El Salvador on Saturday 18 November.

Sheynnis Palacios, who represented Nicaragua was crowned Miss Universe 2023. She made history as this was the first time Nicaragua won the pageant. Miss Thailand Anntonia Porsild was the first runner up, followed by Miss Australia Moraya Wilson as the second runner up.

Bryoni Govender, who proudly represented South Africa at the pageant, placed in Top 20 but did not make it to the top 10. The Top 10 included:

  • Puerto Rico
  • Thailand
  • Peru
  • Colombia
  • Nicaragua
  • Philippines
  • El Salvador
  • Venezuela
  • Australia
  • Spain

Although Bryoni did not make it to Top 10, South Africans were exceptionally proud of how well she did.

BRYONI GOVENDER MADE IT TO TOP 10 IN VOICE FOR CHANGE

During the Miss Universe prelims, Bryoni made it to the Top 10 in the Voice for Change competition. During her Voice for Change interview, the beauty queen spoke about her advocacy campaign Her Way Out. Bryoni launched the campaign in October this year.

The campaign aims to held educate women on their legal rights and provide them with access to justice projects. Bryoni is a law graduate.

She also extended her well wishes to the new Miss Universe and runners up.

“I would like to congratulate Sheynnis and wish her well throughout her reign. It was an honour sharing the Miss Universe stage with her as well as all the competitors who were inspirational and inspiring. I hope that, even though I didn’t get a placing, I did South Africa proud. It is an experience that I will never forget,” she said according to a press release.

“The support has been overwhelming and I so appreciate it. I am looking forward to return to South Africa and continue with my advocacy drive Her Way Out,” she continued.
