As the country continues to celebrate the historic Springboks win at the Rugby World Cup, South Africans are continuing to learn more and more about their players. On Tuesday evening, hours after the players had landed back in South Africa, Goitsioone ‘Fox’ Nché spoke to Robert Marawa to share some more interesting anecdotes about their now-famous family.

Her brother, Ox Nché (birthname, Retshegofaditswe) enjoyed a formidable World Cup and showed his value in many scrum situations that edged the Springboks to victory. Just four years ago, however, he was a spectator like many of his countrymen and women.

In her interview on Marawa Sports Worldwide, Fox Nché (who is also a rugby player!) explained that she always knew her brother would reach the heights of World Cup success.

When Marawa asked her what he must have been thinking four years ago when the Springboks won the World Cup in 2019 she explained, “He said he was going to be there. He was seeing himself there. He’s always been a hard worker, a fierce person and goes for what he wants. And that’s exactly what he did.”

Marawa then asked her what it is that keeps their family so ambitious, yet so grounded. She explained that their church background played a key role, saying “It’s all God. Growing up, we would go to church almost every day! Every night we would all come as a family and pray, that’s what our mom taught us. We don’t necessarily come from a fortunate background, so our mom just wanted us to succeed in each and everything we do.”

‘HE DOESN’T TALK A LOT, EVEN AT HOME’

The conversation then took a lighter note once Marawa started quizzing Fox about her brother’s personality. Marawa joke, “Ox Nché has that mean look on his face! You wouldn’t want to pick a fight with him if you saw him in the street!”

Fox laughed along and revealed that her brother is quite a reserved personality off the pitch. She explained, “He doesn’t talk a lot, even at home. You just see his work. He also has his facial expressions so you can just read between the lines”.
