Award-winning kwaito group Big Nuz is set to release its brand new EP on Friday, 10 November.

However, after the title of the project was announced, fans were not impressed.

BIG NUZ EP TITLE

Last year, the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) group – which consisted three members when it burst into the music scene – released its fourth studio album dedicated to one of its late members, Sbusiso “R Mashesha” Khomo, who passed away in 2015. The offering was named after the musician.

A few months after the release, another member of the group, Mandla “Mampintsha” Maphumulo, sadly passed on 24 December. This meant that only one member of the much-loved trio, Mzi “Danger” Tshomela, was left. As such, the new project has been named Last Man Standing.

‘LAST MAN STANDING’: FANS REACT

While the name may seem innocent or harmless to some, it has raised many eyebrows on X (formerly Twitter) with fans labelling the title insensitive. This is because the term “last man standing” often refers to a survivor, especially after a fight or a final person who endures or emerges victorious from some situation, activity, or pursuit in which others are eliminated.

“We know you’re the only one alive but you shouldn’t have put it like that,” wrote one X user

“This song title feels like he is bragging that he is the only one who is still alive,” wrote popular catfish account, Chris Excel.

IS A FOR MEMBER RETURNING TO BIG NUZ?

Earlier this year, Zimoja reported that Big Nuz would regain its former member Sfiso “Bhar” Mshengu.

Bhar is one of the founding members of Big Nuz, but he decided go solo while the Umlazi band was still based in Johannesburg, before it got its big break.

According to the Uyabhampa singer, he was a member of the group in 1998, but decided to focus on his solo career in 2002, leaving three member; Danger, R Mashesha and Mampintsha.

However, a source told the publication that there was still an elephant in the room as DJ Tira and the musician had unresolved issues.

When Bhar was asked about the claims, he denied the and also declined to comment on his alleged return to Big Nuz.

“What issues are you talking about? We don’t have issues with DJ Tira, I am good with him,” Bhar said.

DJ Tira also echoed Bhar’s sentiments: “Whenever I see Bhar performing, I join him on stage, even last week I did the same.”
