‘Black don’t crack’: DJ Black Coffee’s age revealed on his birthday

With a career spanning years, DJ Black Coffee has quickly become one of the most celebrated DJs. He has managed to cap his career with several accolades, including the prestigious Grammy Award.

Over the years, he has made Europe his playing ground and has headlined several gigs across the globe. Against these gigs, he has rubbed shoulders with several A-listers who have since become friends, including Pharrell Williams and Canadian rapper Drake.

DJ BLACK COFFEE’S AGE REVEALED

No doubt, despite being one of the most followed DJs, Black Coffee has managed to keep his private life under wraps, leaving many to guess even about his age.

However, DJ Black Coffee is trending against the backdrop of his birthday. Taking to social media, celebrities and fans flooded his social media handles with warm birthday wishes.

Mzansi connected the dots about Black Coffee’s age on his birthday. His age left many were more than convinced that ‘black don’t crack.’ The 48-year-old celebrated DJ was born on 11 March 1976 in eThekwini.

The DJ later moved to Umtata, 29 km from late South African President Nelson Mandela’s home in Qunu Village. However, while celebrating Nelson Mandela’s release from prison on 11 February 1990, DJ Black Coffee was involved in an accident that left him with a brachial plexus injury on his left arm.

CAREER

After matric, DJ Black Coffee majored in Jazz Studies at Durban University of Technology. He later worked with Madala Kunene as a backup singer. The exposure saw him competing in the Red Bull Music in 2003.

He had his big break when he dropped his song’ Happiness.’ Two years later, he had his shot to fame when he dropped a remix of Hugh Masekela’s 1972 hit ‘Stimela.’

Since then, DJ Black Coffee has won big and worked with some of the biggest stars, including Drake. No doubt one of his biggest career highlights is his last album. In 2021, he released his seventh studio album ‘Subconsciously.’

The album went on to win at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards. The album won the award for Best Dance/Electonic Album.

MAKING HEADLINES

However, DJ Black Coffee has often hogged headlines from marital woes to being one of Africa’s highest-paid and richest DJs. In 2011, he married media personality and actress Enhle Mbali.

Eight years later, the two called it quits in 2019. Against their fallout, Mbali dragged DJ Black Coffee to the courts for maintenance. “I don’t feel I owe anyone anything. I am not the first person to be in this situation. No one is dead. No one is abused. Nothing terrible happened,” said DJ Black Coffee after his divorce.

However, the DJ’s alleged income was leaked during the court case.

Earlier this year, he escaped death by a whisker after he was involved in an on-flight accident en route to his scheduled gig in Mar Del Plata.
