To celebrate Freedom Day this year, South Africa’s beloved painter Rasta The Artist— real name Lebani Sirenje proudly revealed his latest portrait online.

Rasta The Artist has previously been invited to attend the most important events.

The Zimbabwean-born painter recently attended an event in the North West where he shared that he had painted a portrait of deputy president Incumbent Paul Mashatile and one of President Cyril Ramaphosa himself.

In a video, Rasta could be heard saying,

“This is Rasta The Artist, the [most] famous artist in the world. I came here in Klerksdorp, [on] freedom day to paint the deputy president and the president himself. That’s so very happy—excellent work.”

According to eNCA, many residents in Klerksdorp were apprehensive to attend the Freedom Day celebration event because the president had broken his service delivery promises.

The residents were said to have complained about failed community safety issues including the delay of RDP projects, and a lack of electricity, and water in some areas.

According to SABC News, a source interviewed at the Freedom Day event was quoted as saying,

“I am not feeling free. We are not celebrating freedom. [In fact], we are embarrassed that our president did not say anything about our city. [And], we have got a lot of gangsters that are killing our people and the Alabama Township does not have a police station. [And], nobody says something about it.”
