BONGANI GUMEDE GRADUATES

The popular actor Bongani Gumede, known as Mandla Ndlovu in Mzansi Magic’s canned telenovela Isibaya took to his Instagram account to share that he graduated with a diploma from Wits.

Gumede also advised his followers that talent without education is not enough.

“Education is important. In my language [isiZulu] they say a person learns until they die. When you do something, you must know how it goes theoretically, this way we will know how to return to culture, having a proper understanding of how everything unfolds through both wisdom and the book.”

PLAYING MANDLA IN ‘ISIBAYA’

The award-winning telenovela Isibaya, where Bongani Gumede played Mandla Gumede was set against the backdrop of the taxi industry.

The show revolved around two young lovers Thandeka and Sbusiso who were torn apart by a century-old feud between two powerful families the Ndlovus and Zungus.

Gumede had a starring role as Mandla Ndlovu, the brutal, jealous, and corrupt younger brother of Samson Ndlovu (played by Bheki Mkhwane).

DailySun reported in November 2020 that the show would not be renewed for a ninth season claiming the reason for the cancellation was because the show was not doing well in terms of viewership numbers.

The telenovela got replaced by Black Brain Pictures’ DiepCity, which airs at 20:30 on Mzansi Magic (DStv channel 161).
