Game over: Kim Kardashian shuts mobile game down

Fans of Kim Kardashian: Hollywood will no longer be able to play the game from 8 April 2024 as it’s removed from app stores.

Kim Kardashian has announced that she has shut down her popular mobile app game ‘Kim Kardashian: Hollywood’. As published in Mashable, existing users will be able to still play the game up until 8 April, however it is already off app stores. Kim’s game ranked in millions for the star for the past ten years and it beat out former games from celebrities such as Taylor Swift. It seems Kim is however ready to move on to new ventures in her life.

Fans were not happy about the news and there is even a petition to revive the app as seen on Change.org. Kim has been globally recognised around the world which has helped her app to build a massive amount of fans throughout the years.

Due to Kim Kardashian’s popularity, ‘Kim Kardashian: Hollywood’ made more than $74 million in its first week. According to Mashable, it was reported to earn around $8 million a year. The game was popular among young women who were fans of the star and wanted a glimpse into Hollywood.

Kim Kardashian: Hollywood’ followed the icon’s life

As reported by US magazine, Kim Kardashian’s game featured a cartoon version of Kim as she navigates life in Hollywood. It also featured versions of her family members and other notable stars such as Kris Jenner, Kylie Jenner and Kendall Jenner. Those who played could purchase virtual outfits that were inspired by Kim’s real-life wardrobe.

Outbeating celeb apps

Kim’s game was a massive success, beating out other celebrity apps that failed to last throughout the years. As published in Polygon, the mobile app, which was part of Glu Mobile games outlasted apps from her sisters Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Britney Spears, and even Taylor Swift’s game which shut down in 2019.

Kim’s moving on

As reported by TMZ, Kim announced that the game was ending and she chose to focus on other ventures. She says “ This journey has meant so much to me but I’ve realized that it’s time to focus that energy into other passions”. Kim also thanked the team at Glu and her fans for their support. She adds: “I will be forever inspired by this community that we built together.”
