On Monday, 15 January, legendary singer and performer Elton John won an Emmy award for Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium. As a resut the singer’s latest win has officially earned him the coveted EGOT status.

ELTON JOHN EARNS EGOT STATUS

After becoming the 19th person in history to take home an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony, the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road singer has taken to his Instagram account to not only extend his gratitude but to celebrate this monumental win.

“We won an Emmy and I am on cloud nine!! Receiving this recognition is a testament to the passion and dedication of everyone involved, and I am so deeply grateful”, Elton shared in his caption.

He also told fans that he couldn’t be there to accept his award in person due to a knee operation he recently had done.

Elton John continued: “Whilst I am gutted that I couldn’t be there to accept this award in person– I recently underwent a knee operation, a gentle reminder, perhaps, of a lifetime spent jumping off pianos”.

‘HONOURED TO HAVE JOINED THE HALLOWED RANKS OF EGOT WINNERS’

The legendary singer also extended his gratitude to the Television Academy for the recognition, and to fans who all took the time to vote for him.

“My heartfelt thanks go out to the @televisionacad and all those who took the time to vote. This award reflects the collective effort and creativity of an amazing team…”.

“Thank you to all the fans, friends, and collaborators who have supported me throughout the years”, Elton continued.

The That’s What Friends Are For singer also shared how honoured he feel to have received EGOT status.

“Honoured to have joined the hallowed ranks of EGOT winners, here’s to the joy of music and the magic it brings to our lives!”, he expressed.
