ELON MUSK REVEALS ONE PATIENT RECIEVED MICROCHIP IMPLANT

On Monday, 29 January, Elon noted that his startup Neuralink had successfully implanted the microchip implant by performing a medical procedure called a craniectomy. According to the billionaire the surgery took place on Sunday, 28 January.

In a tweet shared to his X, Musk noted that results from the procedure have indicated “promising neuron spike detection”.

“Initial results show promising neuron spike detection”, Elon Musk shared to X.

When announcing the product, called “Telepathy”, the Space X founder shared that he hopes that it will allow patients with disabilities due to cervical spinal cord injury or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis to control devices with their thoughts.

The billionaire also shared that the brain implant will also “enable control of your phone or computer, and through them almost any device, just by thinking”.

This comes less than a year after Neuralink got the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) approval to operate on humanbeings.

In November 2023, Neuralink announced that they were looking for candidates to join their trial.

At the time the company told Bloomberg News that their ideal candidate is someone who is quadriplegic, due to cervical spinal cord injury or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), under the age of 40 and who will also be eligible and comfortable for a procedure that involves implanting a chip, which has 1 000 electrodes, into their brain.
