Canadian-born American rapper Aubrey “Drake” Graham has lost millions of rands after he placed a $700 000 (an estimated R13.3 million) bet on America’s Sean Strickland to retain his UFC middleweight title against South Africa’s Dricus du Plessis at the UFC 297 fight that took place this past weekend, several publications reported.

Dricus du Plessis recently made history as the first South African UFC champion, ABC reported. The South African champion took the title from his opponent, Sean Strickland, at the Scotiabank Arena this past weekend. The fight’s final score was reportedly a split decision (48-47, 47-48, 48-47) for Du Plessis.

“When they said, ‘and new,’ it felt like 15 years of work, dreaming and sacrificing came together in one single sentence. It was incredible, it feels surreal. Amazing,” Du Plessis was quoted as saying.

It’s said that the fighters usually supported by the rapper have faced unexpected defeats in what is now allegedly known as the infamous “Drake curse”, the publication added.

MORE ABOUT THE RAPPER’S BET IN UFC

Sometimes you win, and sometimes you lose. Last year, Drake won over R50 million after placing a bet on Nigeria’s UFC fighter Israel Adesanya. The Hotline Bling rapper did not only bet that Adesanya would beat his opponent, Alex Pereira, but that he would knock him out. And, on both of his predictions, Drake was correct. Adesanya was said to have knocked down his competitor in the second round, Sky Sports reported.
