In a new in-depth interview with Gayle King, iconic American rapper and philanthropist Jay Z opens up about his illustrious career, his family and what it means to be an impactful rapper.
Throughout the interview we see Gayle and Jay Z walking through his Book of Hov exhibition at the Brooklyn library in New York City. Here the grammy award winning rapper candidly drops some interesting accounts about his personal life and musical journey, so much so that this interview has been on the lips of many fans and social media users across the world.

FOUR BOMBSHELLS THAT THE LEGENDARY RAPPER SHARED
1. The infamous Roc-a-fella diamond hand sign
To many it is the sign of the illuminati, but to Jay Z it is the gesture that symbolizes selling 10 million copies which in music terms meant that whatever you sold, whether that be a single or album, that it went “diamond”.
“When we first started, we had a group called Christion,” JAY-Z explained. “When you sell 10 million, you go diamond, right? We believed in them so heavy; we were like, this group is going to sell 10 million records. So, we started putting the diamond up for Christion. That’s how it all came about”.
2. Fighting for his Masters
While a lot of artists are selling their masters and publishing rights to their music, Jay Z asserts that he will never sell them, simply because of how difficult it was to get ownership of his masters describing it as the “fight of my life”.
After years of fighting the artist, he successfully won his masters and publishing rights in 2014.
“I get why people do it, I’ve been fortunate enough to make money in this place, but for me, it was the fight of my life”, the 99 Problems rapper noted.
3. Brooklyn Carter?
Ever since the birth of Jay Z and Beyonce’s daughter, Blue Ivy in 2012 many have wondered what the significance of her name was. During the interview he exclusively mentioned that her name “Blue Ivy” was a merely a playful and affectionate term that blossomed when the couple saw a sonogram of their daughter.
“We were calling her Blueberry. Like, ‘Look at the little blueberry.’ You know, it was like a nickname. We just took the ‘berry’ off of it and called her Blue.”
The legendary rapper that shared they were planning on naming his oldest daughter Brooklyn Carter, which was an ode to where he grew up.
“It was supposed to be Brooklyn”.
$500k cash or a dinner with Jay Z
This has been the theoretical viral question asked by many. And now finally, the artist himself has shared his thoughts on the problem that has been divided the internet for years.
“You got to take the money,” the Reasonable Doubt rapper said.
Hov continued: “You got all that in the music for $10.99. Take the $500,000, go buy some albums and listen to the albums. If you piece, it together and really listen to the music… it’s all there. Everything I said was going to happen, happened. Everything I said I wanted to do; I’ve done. There’s the blueprint”.
“The blueprint to me and my life and my journey is there already”.
