Controversial American rapper is set to perform in South Africa in September at the Empower Africa Concert.

A CONTROVERSIAL PAST

Even before fame Jonathan Kirk popularly known as DaBaby has had his fair share of drama and controversy. In 2018, DaBaby was involved in a deadly shooting. The rapper was charged with murder; however, charges were reduced to a misdemeanour when a judge ruled that the rapper acted in self-defence.

According to TMZ, In January 2020 the rapper was detained and questioned for his connection to a robbery investigation. It was reported that DaBaby together with his crew attacked a music promoter for only paying him $20,000 out of the $30,000 that was owed for a Miami performance.

Again in March 2020, whiile performing at a concert the artist hit a female fan who was on their way to the stage. DaBaby later issued a public apology on Instagram.

“I do sincerely apologize…I’m very sorry that there was a female on the other end of that flashlight on that phone but you know, keep in mind, I couldn’t see you because you had the flash this close to me. I think by this time you know it’s a well-known fact that male or female I would have responded the same exact way”, he shared.

In 2021 DaBaby teased a collaboration with Tory Lanez who was sentenced to 10 years in jail for shooting Megan Thee Stallion.

In addition to this the controversial rapper came under fire for making homophobic comments while performing onstage at the Rolling Out Loud concert.

He has also proven to be a horrible girlfriend to his ex Danileigh after he kicked her out with their newborn baby.

HEADED TO MZANSI

Despite eagerly announcing that he’s headed to South Africa, many in South Africa have no care for the artist.

One Tweep shared: “South Africans are DEEPLY unserious because ’empower’ and Dababy do not belong in the same sentence”.

Radio personality Sizwe Dhlomo also poked fun at the rapper performing in South Africa,

“Da Baby? FNB Stadium? Lol!”, he joked.
