UPDATE: DID TOM CURRY REPORT ‘RACIAL SLUR’ ALMOST A YEAR LATER?

According to top rugby commentator Hendrik Cronje, Curry reportedly asked referee O’Keeffe about a racial slur he had experienced.

In an audio clip released to the public, Curry questions what he should do if a player calls him a “white c**t.”

However, South Africans believe that Bongi was likely communicating with his team-mates in Afrikaans.

According to social media users, Curry misheard Mbonambi saying the words “wit kant” or “wyd kant,” which means white side [for England] or wide side, respectively.

Although World Rugby and SA Rugby have pledged to investigate the incident, Cronje claims Curry’s complaint directed at Bongi Mbonambi does not stem from the World Cup game last weekend.

Instead, Curry allegedly claimed the incident occurred during a SA vs England Rugby Championship match in November 2022. The game took place at Twickenham and was won 27-13 by the Springboks.

Cronje tweeted: “The alleged incident happened in the November 2022 test between the Boks and England and NOT in the semis.”

UNANSWERED QUESTIONS

Following the latest bombshell claims, rugby fans have been left scratching their heads.

Many are more confused than ever and have a list of unanswered questions, including:

  • Why did Tom Curry bring up the complaint during a Rugby World Cup game a year after the incident?
  • Why are World Rugby and SA Rugby only addressing the incident now?
  • How does the audio clip released to the public relate to Curry’s original complaint?
  • Is this why Curry used the word “if” during his approach to referee Ben O’Keeffe?

SAFFAS SEE RED

While South Africans have been standing by the Springboks and player Bongi Mbonambi throughout the racial slur report, the latest development about Tom Curry has had many seeing red.

@CaptSpringbok: “The level of pettiness from England and the RFU is off the scale! Can’t win World Cups, so we’ll try to bring other teams and players down with us!”

@DavidHe47654658: “If this is something Curry was saving for a year to use in the RWC, then he really is a wit kant.”

@GTheGnome: “That makes the timing of the allegation absolutely abhorrent. Why bring it up in the semi and not in November 2022? It changes the entire situation for me. Absolute joke!”

@jaybarnardza: “If that’s true, this was then 100% plotted in advance. Wow”
