The Funny Chef says ‘OPW’ fired her for not speaking isiZulu

Actress and TV personality Lebogang Tlokana known as The Funny Chef, who was announced as host of OPW (Our Perfect Wedding) in February 2022 opens up about getting fired.

GETTING FIRED FROM OPW
The Funny Chef discussed losing the OPW gig during her recent interview of Popcorn and Cheese with Mpho Popps and Robot Boii.
She revealed on the podcast that she tried to save her job by speaking isiZulu, especially when she was working at weddings in KwaZulu-Natal. She adds that her colleagues were kind enough to tell her what was happening.
“Then I get a call saying – ‘We are going to let you go. Thank you very much for contributing’. Then, the hate started coming up.”
She adds that people were saying she is fat, cannot dress, she was broken, depressed for four months and didn’t want to leave the house or talk to anybody.
The comedienne also revealed that social media hate poured salt on the wound and when one thing goes wrong, everything else goes wrong, and campaigns started pulling out,
“My mom was worried that I was going to [kill] myself. They told me viewers are not happy, and if they are not happy, the channel is not going to be happy. Which was fair. I just didn’t expect it so soon because I was trying.”
Viewers of Our Perfect Wedding were not impressed with the actress and TV personality’s presenting skills and requested the show to let her go. Viewers also previously compared Tlokana to The Queen actress Nomsa Buthelezi who presented the previous season.
