Thabo Bester’s mum says he was conceived through rape [watch]

Maria Mabaso — the mother of convicted murderer and rapist Thabo Bester — has spoken candidly about her son’s background and upbringing, revealing to Eye Witness News (EWN) that the man dubbed as the “Facebook rapist” was conceived as a result of rape.

Speaking to the news outlet on Wednesday, 5 April, Mabaso said that she gave birth to Bester at the age of 17, revealing that he does not know his father.

Mabaso shared the sexual assault ordeal, which she says took place on her way back from visiting her sister with her cousin. The pair had missed the bus back home when they got a lift from a man who later allegedly raped her.

“He nearly killed me… but luckily, I did not die,” she explained.

Mabaso further shared that she raised Bester until he was one, thereafter, her mother requested to take him into her custody.

‘HE’S KILLING ME NOW’

After her mother’s death, when Bester was a teen, the 58-year-old Mabaso said the last time she saw her son was when he was convicted of fraud in Wynberg in 2004 before being released into her custody.

Mabaso says she fears for her life. She also fears for her son’s life.

Asked what she’d say to him if she were to see him again, she said: “I will ask him why you do like that; you don’t think about us because when you do that you’re killing me. He’s killing me now this child. I’m scared for the tsotsis [criminals], I’m scared for Thabo. It’s my child, I like him I’ll never throw him away but what he was doing is wrong…”

POLICE SEARCHING FOR BESTER AND DR NANDIPHA’S DOMESTIC EMPLOYEES

The country’s most-wanted man was serving a life sentence for rape and murder in Mangaung Correctional Centre, a maximum security prison operated by G4S, a multinational company when a fire broke out in his cell burning him beyond recognition on 3 May 2022. However, later in March 2023, the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) finally confirmed that Bester had faked his death in a bid to escape that night

While police continue to search for the Bester and Magudumana, TimesLIVE reported on Wednesday that two of the couples’ employees have gone missing.

Sources claim that police were alerted of the disappearance of the runaway pair’s helper and gardener who were last located at the Hyde Park mansion the couple lived in.
