‘Our only son is no longer with us’: Tibz’s family on his death

Celebrity chef Tebello ‘Tibz ‘ Motsoane’s family ask for prayers after he was brutally murdered with his friend and rapper AKA.

The family of author and celebrity chef Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane released a statement following his death on Friday night, 10 February.

Tibz was gunned down with rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes in Durban outside Wish Restaurant on Florida Road.

TIBZ’S FAMILY ASK FOR PRAYERS

The Motsoane family issued a statement on Saturday, confirming his passing and expressing gratitude for the support and prayers.

“It is with extreme sadness that we acknowledge the passing of our beloved son Tebello and confirm his untimely and tragic passing on the evening of February 10, 2023.”

“To us, Tebello was a son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend. To many he was Tibz Wa Bantwana, Chief of Cool, Summer Time Cool Creator, K1 K9, and the many other names of affection. Our son was loved and he gave love in return. As we come to terms with the devastating truth that our only son is no longer with us we appeal for your compassion, space and time to congregate as a family to decide on the upcoming days.

“We thank you for the love and support we have received and ask you to continue to lift us up in prayer before the Lord.”

TRIBUTES POUR IN

According to TshisaLIVE, Tibz was born in Katlegong, a township 35km east of Johannesburg.

He was a brand strategist, an ambassador for good food and wine and the author of The Colour of Wine: Tasting Change.

The 40-year-old was also AKA’s former manager.

Actress and presenter Minnie Dlamini wrote: “My heart pains for the families of Aka & Tibz 💔 Death be not proud. Rest easy Kings.”

Rapper and former Teargas member Ma-E wrote: “Thank you so much for all your contributions to the culture Tibz, we will never forget you.”

Hip hop DJ, Ms Cosmo said: Tibz gave a lot of us a big break in the industry, he truly believed in it. He took a chance on so many of us, that no one else would.His influence on all our lives is enormous and we can never forget how he changed us and the face of SA Hip Hop. Robala Ka Kgotso Tebello.”

While film director Thabang Moleya wrote: “We had so much fun shooting ‘Victory Lap’ we were a small crew of five people and an empty Jhb city. Tibz got us lunch, AKA loan my leather jacket for one of the scenes. 12 yrs later this video still remains one of my favorite vids. Rest easy fellas.”
