Steve Hofmeyr’s son Devon has confronted Minister of Police Bheki Cele on his plan of action for farm murders in South Africa and increased crime levels in the North West community of Brits.

The businessman – who formed the Bittereinders activism movement – led a march with residents, including farmers.

Devon is the first-born son of the Afrikaans singer, who was born to ex Noline Fourie in 1992.

STEVE HOFMEYR’S SON CONFRONTS MINISTER OVER FARM KILLINGS

On Tuesday, 10 October, Deveon Hofmeyr led his group of Bittereinders activists and residents to hand over a memorandum to Bheki Cele.

The group, who gathered outside the Brits police station, were seen confronting the minister and the North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kena.

According to The Citizen, the memorandum was drafted by the Brits Stock Farmers Association, who appealed to police to use their time and resources on farm murders.

In a video, Devon demanded answers from the Minister of Police: “Mr Bheki Cele. You are standing in front of a community that is worried. Where are the answers we have been waiting for?

“You are a politician and minister. You are put here to serve this community, not scare them or intimidate them”

Steve Hofmeyr’s son then touched on farm murders in the area.

“We need action from you. And if you don’t want to take action, give us the privilege to do it ourselves”.

BHEKI CELE RESPONDS: ‘WORK WITH US’

In another clip, Bheki Cele responded to the angry residents of Brits.

In it, he urged the community to be vigilant of hiring illegal foreigners.

“Stop employing people who have no documents…people that we can’t chase. We have no fingerprints or DNA for illegal foreigners. If they commit a crime, it becomes very difficult to trace them. Work with us”.

He added: “It is a huge problem”.

Cele encouraged farmers to approach the Department of Home Affairs to register employers in their businesses.

He added that the National Rural Safety Strategy (NRSS) at rural police stations continues to address rural safety as part of their policing approach.

DEVON HOFMEYR: ‘WE WON’T BEG ANY FURTHER’

In Facebook and TikTok posts, Devon Hofmeyr hinted at taking matters into his own hands.

“We won’t wait for politicians anymore. And we will not beg any further”, he captioned a clip of him speaking.

It’s not the first time the outspoken activist has made headlines. In August, Devon and the Bittereinders attempted to confront EFF leader Julius Malema at the party’s headquarters in Marshall Street, Johannesburg.

“Come kill us now,” he was heard yelling at security, who refused to let the group in.

Devon and the Bittereinders were enraged by a video of Malema singing the controversial struggle song Kill The Boer just days earlier.
