Despite being ‘snubbed’ in the Springboks Rugby World Cup squad – reportedly in favour of Handre Pollard – Joseph Dweba is in good spirits.

Joseph Dweba is not letting his exclusion from the Rugby World Cup put a damper on his spirit. Despite being “snubbed” by the Springboks in favour of Handre Pollard, the Stormers player is all smiles.

Pollard returned to Bok camp earlier this week to replace Malcolm Marx, whose long-term knee injury ruled him out of the tournament.

But many believe Pollard took a spot on the squad that rightfully belonged to Dweba.

DWEBA ALL SMILES DESPITE SPRINGBOKS SQUAD

Like Malcolm Marx, Joseph Dweba is a specialist hooker, fuelling rumours that he would replace the injured player. But his hopes were dashed after the Springboks confirmed that Handre Pollard had been called up instead.

On social media, Dweba posted pics of himself at training for his club DHL Stormers.

On his Stories, he posted a video of him laughing and joking that he was “back.”

Despite his positive attitude, many rugby fans think he was robbed of his Rugby World Cup experience.

“Should have been you on the plane to France,” said one Instagram follower in the comments section. Another added: “They’re sleeping on you.”

A third added: “We need Dweba in France; otherwise, we ain’t going to perform against Ireland.”

In a media briefing this week, Rassie Erasmus revealed that confirmed that Handre Pollard would be brought in to replace Malcolm Marx. He added that fellow Springbok players Marco van Staden and Deon Fourie had trained to cover in the hooker position.

He continued: “We spoke to Joseph [Dweba], and he understood 100% that if it was Bongi (Mbonambi) who was out, there’s a case of a like-for-like replacement.”

On selecting Pollard, Erasmus added: “We opted to call up Handre, who has been in our system for years and who was a member of our team in 2019 when we won the World Cup.”
