All eyes are firmly fixed on SA Rugby Rassie Erasmus for the announcement of the Rugby World Cup Springboks squad set to face France this weekend.
The teams will go head to head in a quarter-final clash on Sunday, 15 October.
But while the details of the game – including the referee and even the choice of the kit have been made public – one thing remains a guessing game: the squad selection.
But while he buys time – or strategises – he’s left fans entertained with a uniquely South African description of the defending champions.

‘THERE’S NO BANG GAT’
Speaking to SupserSport, Rassie Erasmus elaborated on his rationale behind the squad selection.
He said: “When we pick a team, we don’t always pick the best centre [for example]. We pick the centre that complements the guy with who he plays with, and is he a guy that’s willing to go into a ruck and contest the ruck on the ground.

Rassie gave a truly authentic description of the boys in green and gold.
He continued: “I can tell you without a doubt in, in the 33-man squad, there’s not a bang gat [a scared person]. I can’t use a better word.”
The SA Rugby director praised his team for their mutual respect for each other.

“They’re willing to graft… We’re all four years older, and there’s a couple of young guys…But the way the older guys understand, which we didn’t in 2019, what we can do for people’s happiness and people in South Africa who go through tough times.
“The guys enjoy having the opportunity to make 80 minutes better for the people in South Africa.”
‘LONG LIVE RASSIE’ SAYS AMUSED FANS
On social media, rugby fans were tickled pink by Rasse Erasmus’s description of the Springboks.
“Rassie for Minister of Sports,” said one IG user. A second posted: “Rassie eGOATmus.”
A third added: “In Rassie, we trust.”

WHEN WILL THE SQUAD BE ANNOUNCED?
Just days away from the quarter-final match, Rassie Erasmus admitted that they were still deliberating over the selection of the squad.
Fans also want to know if the team will include players like Manie Libbok, Lukhanyo Am, or Handre Pollard.

However, according to SA Rugby, the announcement will only be made on Friday, 13 October.
Rassie said in a media statement: “The coaches will sit Wednesday morning and confirm things, and then the players will slot in. The way the French team looks could also influence what selection we decide on.
“The one thing for certain is that we have the right bunch of players here.”
