Springboks player Elton Jantjies has responded to being under intense media scrutiny for the last year in his personal and professional life. 

Speaking on the Champagne Rugby podcast, the controversial rugby star admitted to making “mistakes” both on and off the pitch.

In the last 18 months, Elton has made headlines for all the wrong reasons, ranging from an alleged affair with national team dietician Zeenat Simjee to an alleged doping scandal.

Speaking on the podcast this week, Elton Jantjies reflected on his actions in the past year, which have come under public scrutiny.

He said: “We all make mistakes, we all have learnings, we all have ups, we have left downs.

Elton also spoke out on how the backlash had affected his loved ones.

“Rugby is not just about the individual. You’ve got a family as well. You’ve got your kids …your mothers and your fathers that also reads things…Those are the people that actually hurt the most because for me it’s, it doesn’t faze me.”



When asked if he was on standby to play for the Springboks in the Rugby World Cup in France, Elton responded: “That’s always the main priority. One day at a time.

“First things first, this is the kind of situation I’ve got. Hopefully, I can see it in the next couple of days and be injury-free and be in the position to go.

Elton – who did not make the Springboks Rugby World Cup squad – has vowed to prove his innocence after he confirmed that he had tested positive for a banned substance last month.

According to the Institute for Drug-Free Sport, if Elton’s back-up sample also comes back positive for the substance – Clenbuterol – then he would have to choose to accept charges or proceed to a hearing with an independent tribunal panel, reports Cape Talk.
