‘7de Laan’ actress Diaan Lawrenson – known for her popular role as Paula van der Lecq – has reacted to the sad news of the soapie’s ending.

One of the most well-known faces of soapie 7de Laan, actress Diaan Lawrenson – who played the character of Paula van der Lecq – has spoken out on the soapie’s upcoming ending.
The pretty blonde reacted to news that SABC has not recommissioned the Afrikaans soapie’s next season.
7de Laan will come to an end in December 2023.
7DE LAAN’S ‘PAULA’ SPEAKS OUT
In a statement posted on their social media account, 7de Laan producers claimed that season 24 would be its final one. The show – which has won multiple TV awards – first aired on 4 April 2000.
Despite being based in a fictional neighborhood, the soapie featured real-life storylines covering topics like gender-based violence, human trafficking, and interracial relationships.

It’s also boasted popular characters – like Diaan Lawrenson – who have become household names. Diaan’s portrayal of bubbly blonde Paula van der Lecq was a firm fan favourite until her exit in 2017.
According to many viewers, the soapie “was never the same” after her departure.
Reacting to the sad news, Diaan shared on her Instagram Stories: “Thinking of all the actors and crew of 7de Laan”.
Alongside a pic of her character, Diaan shared: “This was my first publicity shoot as Paula. Many, many moons ago.”

Another actress, Carina Nel – who plays Alexa Welman – also shared her thoughts.
She shared on her IG Stories: “Our hearts are broken. Thank you, 7de Laan, for what you meant to me and the whole of South Africa. You will always be family”.
